For the fleeting summer months, you want to spend all the time you can enjoying the outdoors – especially if it’s from an outdoor patio oasis. Don’t get stuck in this summer’s heat wave with nowhere to lounge; whether your patio is quaint, spacious, or somewhere in between, we’ve got you covered.
Wesgroup’s Interior Design team is well-versed in creating beautiful spaces – both indoor and outdoor. Our Interior Design expert, Sarita, has rounded up her favourite ways to create an oasis in your own backyard this summer. Whether you’re looking to accessorize your existing set-up or to start from scratch, we’ve got all the tips you need to make the most of your outdoor space.
Bring the Inside, Outside
It’s time to blur the lines between the words ‘indoor’ and ‘outdoor.’ There is no rule book for outdoor design and how outdoor living should feel – the more comfortable your outdoor space feels, the more likely you are to spend time enjoying it. Not only can you create an intimate sanctuary in your own backyard, you can make your home feel more spacious by extending it to the outside. Finding enough chairs for your next dinner party just got a whole lot easier. Sarita says, “don’t be afraid to introduce your favourite indoor comforts like, plush seating, side tables, pieces of art, mirrors and rugs, to create a liveable feel outside.”
Keep it Green
Incorporating green into your patio will keep it looking fresh and like it might actually be outside. There are so many ways to do this from potted plants, flowers or a mixture of both. One of Sarita’s favourite ways to add a little green is by introducing a living wall. Living walls can transform a vertical surface into a lush and striking garden and create an instant focal point. They can be as small, or as large, as you like and you get very creative with the design using different plants, flowers and even vegetables. Not to mention, they make a great backdrop for those inevitable patio photos you’ll be taking this summer. Sarita likes to find her outdoor greenery at Atlas Pots, Garden Works and Trims!
Summer-ize Your Space
While we always want to completely revamp our space, it can be costly and time consuming – sometimes all you need to do is refresh your existing pieces. For an inexpensive way to bring your space back to life, you can switch out basics like baskets, vases and pillows to instantly revive your space. Some of Sarita’s favourite spots to pick up some new accessories include Ginger Jar, West Elm and HomeSense. She also shared some of her favourite pieces to keep you on-trend without breaking the bank. The JFM brass match striker screams “not your average BIC.” A funky watering can will take a chore and turn it into a treat – and also makes for a unique side table accessory. And, the Pinetti leather basket will keep your blankets neat and always ready for guests.
